iPhone filmmaking, it’s the future (kind of)

We love technology, isn’t it brilliant? Every day it gets better and better. As a filmmaker, you’ll know that what could once only be achieved with expensive gear and a huge crew can now be achieved on your own with what’s in your pocket. Think about that, it’s amazing. We’ve all been told and probably said ourselves “The best camera you have is the one you have with you”. Which are some wise words, although it’s not always true. It’s certainly becoming more true as every day passes though and iPhone filmmaking is starting to take a real step up.

Take this tutorial from the always excellent Film Riot for example, they created a sketch entirely on their iPhones. Pretty neat. The tutorial also goes into detail on using Filmic Pro to film. Ryan takes a look at the settings you have at your disposal and what settings Film Riot used to make their film.

It’s not the easiest, but it’s in your pocket

Sure, it’s not as easy as using an Alexa or Canon DSLR to shoot your film. It’ll be fiddly, the exposure will be annoying and you overall have less control on the finished product. BUT! You have the ability to make a film…on your phone. Which is insane, imagine if you went back a few years and told yourself that, you think you were crazy. You’d also be rich enough to afford a RED because you’ve just invented time travel, but that’s an entirely different article.
