What’s new in the world of filmmaking gear?
It’s that NAB time of year again but with an influx of new tech and new gear, how do we filter out the best? Well, luckily the awesome Film Riot have us covered. In this video, the focus is on the best filmmaking gear from NAB 2017. Ryan from Film Riot breaks down the new gear he’s most excited about including the Ronin 2, Atomos Sumo, SmallHD Focus, and Cinematch.
If you’re a fan of the DJI Ronin, then obviously you’ll probably want to get your hands on a Ronin 2. The Ronin 2 let’s filmmakers capture the scene they see in their mind. DJI have upgraded the high torque motors for a start. Which allows it to support a wider range of cameras and to resist high winds and G-forces. That means you can go even faster when this is mounted to a car and your footage will be kept smooth in flight.
The Atomos Sumo gives you the ability to upgrade your on-set production monitors to be HDR capable and have the ability to record dailies, proxies or 4Kp60 masters too. You can use Sumo in the studio too, as an HDR grading monitor.
Big production value for small camera setups. This 5-inch touchscreen (with daylight visibility) is the professional grade camera-top monitor that you’ve been looking for. It can even power your Sony mirrorless camera.
CineMatch is a plugin that allows you to match colours and exposure across cameras of different types and from different manufacturers. Pretty neat, right? Shooting a multicam project on different cameras and editing the footage isn’t the easiest of jobs for filmmakers. Cinematch will help to tweak colours and exposure to make footage match.
